Unnamed sources involved in the ongoing prisoner talks in Gaza expressed astonishment at Trump’s comments, noting that there had been no visible shift in the stance of either Hamas or Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to them, Trump's statement was “nothing more than political wishful thinking.”
These insiders stated that the US administration backs a broad agreement that encompasses a truce, the return of detained Israelis, and a halt to the ongoing conflict—steps they believe would open the door for expanding normalization accords in the region.
However, during a press briefing at the White House, American officials admitted they were unclear about the foundation of Trump's confidence when he claimed, “We think within the next week we're going to get a ceasefire.”
Officials also mentioned that they had not received any indication of a breakthrough in the hostage swap discussions, though they acknowledged that informal communications were still underway with the assistance of Qatari and Egyptian intermediaries.
